Well, it has been busy...
A RedBook that includes a lot of this "Under The Hood" information is about to appear and an Enterprise Deployment Case Study RedPaper. I also presented this material at IBM Bedfont Lakes with the IBM WebSphere CTO in attendance (which was interesting...).
Currently, I am looking at what is necessary to produce a generic Linux deployment for a piece of Open Source comms code I am working on. I am beginning to think that source and autoconf is the only real option.
